How long until we get there?

Imagine that you are driving to your holiday destination, when suddenly the sky grows dark, the road turns into a dirt track without warning, so you slow down, then the sat nav blinks and goes blank. Then a child's voice comes from the back seat, 'Dad, when will we get there?'

In one sense the question can't be answered because the road has disappeared and you find it hard to see which way to go.

This is just the situation that the Govenor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, finds himself in.  It's not a case of 'when' will things get back to normal, it's a case of what is normal?

However, what I can say is that a number of my clients are switching their savings out of investments into property, even at this time of uncertainty.  Why, because they have control, and I agree with them.  Investments are about returns, not the value of the investment, value in the long term will take care of itself.
